Who am I?
Licensed Marriage and Family therapist (#81604)
Debbie Morales Miller, LMFT
I feel lucky to get to do something that I am passionate about. For over ten years I have done this work, and it has been such a humbling and rewarding experience to get to watch people grow. I enjoy working with brave people who are motivated to better themselves and their lives, and they trust me to help them do it!
It’s important to me to understand who my clients are and what is important to them, including cultural and religious beliefs, so we can incorporate them in our sessions. Every person has so many strengths and skills already and we will use all of those, in addition to developing new skills to help you get unstuck, during our time together.
I have helped clients with: anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, grief and loss, self-identify, difficulties finding the right romantic partner, couple/marital conflict, premarital counseling, anger management, behavioral difficulties in children, family conflict, infidelity, borderline personality disorder, communication skills, social skills, impulsivity, and life transitions. Just to name a few!
There are a wide variety of tools I use with clients, depending on their goals for therapy, so I can tailor my approach to be as helpful as I can be. My theoretical orientations include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, Behavioral therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Humanistic therapy, Psychodynamic theory, Play and art therapy for children, the Gottman method, the Satir method, and Systems theory for couples/families.
Over the course of my career, I have provided therapy in many different settings, including: schools, outpatient mental health, community settings, hospitals, crisis intervention, and private practice.
I am licensed in the state of California with the Board of Behavioral Sciences and I am a member of CAMFT.
